Don’t You Just Want to Eat Meryl Up?

We went to see “Julie & Julia” last weekend. We both knew we’d like it having read numerous fattening (I mean flattering!) reviews, but were still unprepared for the pure joi de vivre Meryl Streep brings to this performance.

And the criticisms of the Amy Adams portrayal totally miss the point. There is healthy and exuberant refuge to be found in working with food, creating sumptuous meals that sate every sense.

Leaning Tower of Ice Cream

CIMG1053Granite State Candy Shoppe in Concord, NH has a secret. You can’t find evidence of of it on its website. And, that’s just crazy, because this is the source of the best ice cream deal in all of the State of New Hampshire.

Granite State really is a business about very good chocolate candy. But they take ice cream seriously as well. My kinda people.

Soiree Cakery Lemon Cake Soars

CIMG1054We stopped by to celebrate Butter’s Fine Foods & Wine 3rd Birthday with Krystan and the crew on July 30.

A nice selection of wines to sample per usual, but the treat was the cake. Wow!

Kristy Stephens Ammann, owner of Soiree Cakery, was behind the counter cutting up heavenly slices of her signature lemon cake. A perfect concoction of sour and sweet, it would be perfect for weddings, showers, anniversaries… heck, for Thursdays. I think it was a Thursday.
